Haiku stairs work day 1/28/12

We joined the Friends of Haiku Stairs today for a service project to clear invasive plants from the trail/stairs corridor. Led by the two Johns--Goody and Flanigan--three dozen volunteers went to work on the stairs.

I was asked to lead the main ridge team--seven of us, and we were responsible for clearing from the first lookout to the wheelhouse on the summit ridge. Joining Jacque and I were Justin Ohara and Met Lebar from HTMC, plus three others. We had a good day in the Koolaus.

Briefing by John Goody

O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely--

A class and the temple

Jacque, for the spring semester at UH-West Oahu, was able to pick up one class today (she has to register during the late reg. period because she gets a tuition waiver). Hopefully, she can add a second tomorrow.

Also, we went to the Laie Temple this evening (6pm session) and did endowment work for ancestors of Sapena Faumuina, from our ward.

A good day.

MLK Day(le) and Jacque

Today was the Martin Luther King holiday, so we watched the Matt Damon movie We Bought a Zoo at the Dole Cannery Theater. Much better than expected. 4 of 5 stars from DT. 5 of 5 from JT.

Then did food shopping at Costco Iwilei. Then home.  Then dinner (turkey a la king w/brown rice).

Twenty Years!

Dayle reached the 20-year milestone at Leeward Community College and received the following recently.

Retirement?  Not soon.  Perhaps in ten years or so and when he receives his 30-year certificate in 2022.  We'll see.

Ward choir dinner

Tonight at church, we were invited to a dinner for the ward choir of which Jacque and I are members.  We heard a message from the Elders (Cottle and Delai, pictured above).
Then we ate
We also sang (of course) and played some games like charades, scattergory, and name that tune. It was a fun night.
And ate some more

Double dinner!

Jacque and I had an early dinner at our friends' (Chris and Loren Thomas) in Kalama valley. Also there with us was Dr Blane Chong, his wife, Roy Enos, his dad, Dr Terry Young, his wife and kids. Good time, good food.

Left Kalama valley at 635 and arrived at home in Kaneohe at 705 for a second dinner with Elders Delai And Cottle. Good food, good time, and had FHE and played Book of Mormon Golf.
